Our New Addition

21 Aug

We didn’t want to get another dog for a couple of years. We went through a lot with Teddy and wanted to focus on making a baby before we dove into puppyland again. You know what they say about the best laid plans…

This is Jackson. He was a gift from a very kind friend who also got a new puppy, his brother!

To be honest, at first I didn’t want to say yes to our friend’s offer. I didn’t want to have to go through training a new puppy again, as we just finished a whole year of puppy fun. I didn’t want to deal with more dog hair, or worry about having a puppy and a baby at the same time (not pregnant yet, hopefully soon). Most of all, I didn’t want to betray my dear Teddy, who we so recently lost. However, we weighed the pros and cons and researched the breed – he’s a labradoodle, lab/poodle mix – and when we found out that he wouldn’t shed, he’d be great with kids, and he would only get to be 40-50lbs, we decided the offer was just too good to refuse.

Another big plus to getting a puppy was to give Ruby a friend. We knew she was sad that she no longer had Teddy to play with (imagine losing a brother that you spend every single day with) and we felt bad for her having to be alone all the time.

She loves him. She got VERY excited when we first brought him home and did some crazy fast laps around the front yard to tell us how happy she was.

Jackson adores his big sister. He loves to cuddle with her and nibble on her tail.

The only thing Ruby doesn’t love about her new brother, is sharing her food and toys. She needs to work on being nicer when he sniffs around her while she’s eating. Here she is watching him eat like a hawk.

And checking the bowl when he is done to make sure there is no crumb left behind.

Now that he’s here, of course I love him to pieces. He is such a sweet fluffy little guy and hasn’t been too hard to train so far. The only thing I’m a bit sad about is not being able to sleep in during these last few weeks of summer break!
