Let’s Play Catch Up

7 Jul

I haven’t done a random post in a while and I have a lot to catch up on from the long weekend and the last few days so here it goes…

Last week, my very first week of summer vacation, I was sick as a dog. You name the symptom, I had it: vomiting, sore throat, body aches, headache, runny nose, cough, diarrhea… it was like I had four different viruses at once. No fun at all. By the weekend, I was still coughing quite a bit, but the other symptoms had subsided, so we headed down to my in-laws ranch. We had fun, despite not getting much sleep due to my coughing fits.

Our favorite part was hanging out with this little cutie:

She’s our friends’ baby, Stella, and this was during her favorite knock-down-the-cheerios-so-Mike-can-pick-it-up game. It was so stinking cute.

When we got home, our house was sparkling clean because my husband got me the most amazing end of the school year gift: the gift of a professional house cleaning. You see, I’m not so good at cleaning and I love nothing more than paying someone else to clean the house for me, so this was the perfect gift.

Even though the house was clean, it was kind of miserable because it was so terribly hot. Since we were away all weekend and didn’t have the air conditioning on while we were gone, it was up to 85 degrees inside when we got home, and that was after the air had been running all morning for the cleaning lady.

To escape the heat, we decided to see a movie in a nice, air conditioned theater. Since we’re too cheap to buy their over-priced popcorn and soda, we packed our dinner in my nice big purse.

We saw Super 8 and I really enjoyed it! I did have one big coughing fit in the middle of it, but I went out into the lobby and didn’t miss anything too important.

Today I had big plans to get a car wash, mani/pedi, see my new OBGYN, do some shopping, and go to a Dodger game. I only accomplished two of those things, but there’s always tomorrow! That’s what is so great about summer vacation – no rush to get things done.

My new doctor is AMAZING. I will give more details in next week’s Spearmint Baby post.

The Dodger game was really fun! My friend Roxanne took me as her date with our friends Laura and Scott who scored some amazing free seats.

Can’t see us, but look at that stadium!

I’m on a terrible schedule of staying up way too late and sleeping in way too late, but I’m hoping a little camping next week will fix all of that.

I’d like to do a little informal reader survey! If you’re reading, pretty please leave a comment telling me a little bit about yourself: are you single or married? Do you have kids or want them? Do you love dogs or prefer an animal-free house? Are you religious? Into politics? Like to knit? Please share! The more I know about you, my dear readers, the more I can tailor my posts to what interests you.

I look forward to hearing from you!

I am married with three boys and a little girl due in October. We love our dogs but they don't always get the attention they used to pre-kids. I am a Christian and attend church but not on a regular basis at this time. I'm not that into politics but I follow the news as best I can between sesame street and dinosaur train. I don't knit but I do crochet (just not very well).

I am married, just announced our first pregnancy and due in February. We have 2 cats. I love dogs, but the cat's wouldn't really allow a dog, and we're not home enough to take care of one 😦 I am Lutheran, but lazy about getting my butt to church unless I'm teaching Sunday School. My favorite age to teach is 1st-3rd grade. Not super political. My husband is in the Navy and got home from a 9 month deployment about 4 months ago. And I can crochet (no knitting for me) but I'm not very good at it. Love reading your blog! Good luck on this next cycle 🙂

I am married and my first baby (a boy) is due August 16th. I LOVE dogs, have two of my own and am very active in dog rescue. I'm not religious, only vaguely into politics and knitting has never sounded that fun. Thanks for asking!! 🙂

I am a newly wed as you know! I have 5 tortoises and would love a dog but we live in a condo…that's the hardest part about living in a condo for my husband because he's a huge dog lover. I am Catholic and go to church regularly…I grew up going with my family and now I go with my husband. It's important to both of our families. I am somewhat into politics but less so than I was in previous years probably just because I'm so busy. I've never knitted before but am always open to trying new things…just tried real golf for the first time last week (thought it would be boring but it ended up being really fun!).

Hey! I Really liked this post! It's the only blog I read. I live in Santa Ynez now with my boyfriend, cat, dog (who is pregnant) and 2 horses. Looking forward to hearing about the new doctorSS

I'm married, don't have kids yet (and my biological clock hasn't started ticking) but will have to get pregnant in about 2 years to stick to our "baby timeline," so hopefully I'll want them by then! I love dogs, and although we have cats and a gecko, we'll hopefully be getting a dog next year once we buy a house. I'm not at all religious, or into politics, and I don't know how to knit, but really enjoy sewing and other kinds of crafts.

I'm married and have an eight month old boy – Oscar. I have a cat (pets provide much entertainment for babies and are very useful for distracting from ouchies). I am a christian though don't get to church much as baby boy doesn't sleep too well when we're out. I sew and scrapbook though now not as much as I'd like to! I have recently resigned from my job and am now a stay at home Mum. Oh yes, Mum, not Mom, as I'm in Australia.

PS – the battle with the baby gods is a struggle. I wish you all the best for a speedy journey into mummy-hood. Ours was a long time coming but worth every tablet, jab, test and tear. xo

Hi Amy!Married (6 and a half years!) with no kids (yet), 3 cats, obsessed with dogs, not religious at all, don't know how to knit or crochet, and have NO sense of design or style, so I LOVE IT when you post stuff about that…stuff. Love your baby posts and dog posts and house and life posts. Call me loyal ;)Lizzie Vance

Married (6.5 years), working on the kidlet thing (infertility = the suck, but sometimes all this science is just so COOL and I'm focusing on that part of it these days), momma to two dogs (and auntie to another who is living with us for a year, check out my blog post on July 8 for more on that). I dream of the cleanliness of an animal-free house, but to make that come true, I'd have to get rid of three furbabies and my husband… probably not worth it! Not religious; for politics, I'm socially liberal but finding myself a fiscal conservative these days (good thing I live in Austin -LIBERAL!- Texas -CONSERVATIVE!) I love your design posts too, but it's because I need to live vicariously since I'm never actually at my house with free time to work on it. And my taste is, shall we say, limited.
